For the first time in the history of Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT), Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) partnered with HDIF to add a new category of Innovations for Human Development Reporting in the EJAT competitions where two journalists emerged winners.
The two winners of HDIF category in the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2019 were Philip Clement Mwihava from Clouds FM Dar es Salaam (Radio) and Tatu Abdallah Kazimoto from TBC1 Njombe (TV). The two were presented their awards by HDIF Country Director Mr. Joseph Manirakiza and HDIF Communications Specialist Ms. Hannah Mwandoloma.
At the end of the awards ceremony, two contestants, Halili Habibu Letea of Mwananchi newspaper and Hilda Amedhastone Phoya of Mlimani TV emerged as overall winners of EJAT 2019 for the 11 edition of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2019. The two were presented trophies, certificates and dummy cheques of Tshs Three million each by the Tanga Regional Commissioner, Martin Shigella during the event’s gala night held at Tanga Beach Resort on September 28, 2020. This is a second time two overall winners emerge in EJAT.
This is the 11th edition of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) which have been presented annually since 2009 by the Media Council of Tanzania and its partners. The awards have since become the top and most coveted journalism awards in Tanzania and the annual Awards Gala Night has grown to become the most prestigious event for celebrating the work of journalists in the country. For the first time this year, the awards ceremony was held outside Dar e s Salaam.
