The Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF) is a £40m UKAID innovation fund managed by a Palladium Group-led consortium in Tanzania in partnership with the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). HDIF’s goal is to improve human development outcomes for people in Tanzania by funding sustainable solutions for improving the quality and impact of basic services in health, education and WASH.
Since its launch in 2013, HDIF has funded 43 grantees through three rounds of funding and has a portfolio that reaches 20 regions of Tanzania. HDIF is working with COSTECH and other local partners to improve the innovation ecosystem of Tanzania by strengthening cross-sector networks and supporting the generation of innovative ideas through strategic partnerships, awards and events. Network and connections – leveraging HDIF’s communications platforms to showcase innovation and share inspirational change stories. Skills and ideation – supporting initiatives such as the Mawazo Challenge to stimulate ideas and inspire new innovators in order to help solve community problems in Tanzania. Celebrating innovation – HDIF’s annual innovation week brings together more than 2,000 participants and over 40 partners through local partner-led events to network and share learning.
